Grappling sports provide a unique opportunity for students to learn patience, resilience, and tenacity. Families in these programs report their children developing emotional and physical strength, courage to resist bullying behavior, and a strong sense of community.

The Kids Grappling program integrates Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Judo, and Wrestling.

Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art focused on ground fighting and submission holds. First developed by the Gracie brothers as a self defense system, BJJ quickly became a sport practiced around the world. Students in American Top Team’s Kids’ BJJ program learn Jiu Jitsu primarily in the Gi, a robe used for grips and submissions.

Kids Wrestling

Wrestling is a combat sport utilizing grappling techniques to takedown, submit, and/or pin an opponent. The ATT program is run by Jonathan Thompson - a high school wrestling coach boasting several state qualifiers and champions.

Kids Judo

Kids Judo

Judo is an olympic sport originating from Japan that coaches throws, pins, and submissions. Our kids learn these skills in a safe, controlled environment that prioritizes drilling to cultivate muscle memory. The ATT Asheville Judo program is directed by Master Bob DeLuca: US Open Champion and Black Belt since 2014 at Ki Itsu Sai National Olympic Training Center under Sensei German Valasquez (Olympian and Red Belt), Sensei Johnny Prado (Red Belt), and Sensei Miguel Delgado (Former Cuban National Team Member).


  • Our Mini Warriors range from ages 3-6. In this class, students are focused on learning basic movements and techniques that will serve them as they advance into more sport-oriented classes. Our Mini Warriors develop teamwork skills, listening and comprehension skills, physical fitness, and confidence.

  • Our Little Warriors range from ages 7-11 These students begin to learn the fundamental offensive and defensive techniques designed for sport and self defense. Students develop confidence and resilience through class competition, and work together to accomplish goals in team building activities.

  • Our Kids BJJ students range from ages 7-11. Students in this range are practicing more advanced Jiu Jitsu for sport and self defense through intentional drilling and sparring.

  • At 12 years old, students are encouraged to attend our adults classes at the level that is most appropriate for them.
